The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) works alongside a number of Regional Alliances that support local decision making and foster positive relationships between the community and government, enhancing stakeholder engagement and overall capacity building. The AHO are proud to announce funding being allocated to a new temporary position in the Riverina Murray Regional Alliance (RMRA) as a Housing Lead that will facilitate and nurture positive working relationships between the AHO and RMRA.

Funding was committed to the role after it was identified that alliances needed a supporting resource to work with AHO and other government agencies.

As Housing Lead, Tessa Coddington (pictured alongside Aunty Barb from the Jeithi Elders Group in Jerilderee) will focus on building stronger relationships between Aboriginal tenants, housing providers and local stakeholders, ensuring the voices of Aboriginal people are heard and reflected in community housing programs.

The RMRA, which holds extensive connections and knowledge in the community around housing support systems, welcomes this collaboration and support behind this position as an opportunity to deepen its impact and ensure Aboriginal communities are actively involved in shaping their housing futures.

The AHO will direct funding toward this temporary position to address the imbalance, bridge the gap and nurture effective engagement to assist in program design and strategy. The Housing Lead will work with community stakeholders and represent RMRA to setup government and non-government meetings while also being consistent in reporting and record keeping. The role will oversee regular reporting between AHO and RMRA, ensuring transparency, accountability and alignment with the AHO’s mission to provide safe, affordable and culturally appropriate housing.

By creating this role, the significant work of the RMRA will be captured and better inform the AHO of the work being done in the region further creating and supporting the Riverina Murray Regional Aboriginal Housing strategy.
