About home ownership grants

There are multiple grants available to people in the process of buying a new home who meet the eligibility criteria.

Grant amount: various

  • Home Buyer Booster - up to $2,500 for legal and administrative costs.
  • Deadly Deposit - up to $10,000 to  match the house deposit you've saved. 
  • AHO Tenancy Plus - up to $20,000 in co-contribution for eligible long-term AHO residents. 

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Home Ownership grant, you must be an Aboriginal person who:

  • is over the age of 18
  • is buying their first home
  • has a minimum deposit of $1,000 and no more than 30% of the property's value
  • has a current home loan pre-approval from a lender
  • resides in NSW
  • holds an interest in the property of at least 25%
  • has an annual taxable household income (individual or combined) of no more than to $200,000
  • has not accessed the AHO Home Buyer Saver Grants in the past.

In addition, applicants seeking to access the Home Buyer Boost Grant and the AHO Tenancy Plus Grant must meet the additional criteria.

  • Home Buyer Booster Grant, applicants must not be eligible for Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) Remote Indigenous Home Loan package
  • AHO Tenancy Plus Grant (TPG), applicants must be an existing tenant of AHO social or affordable housing.

Eligibility for applicants with larger deposits

The AHO may consider applicants whose deposit exceeds the 30% criteria in circumstances where an applicant:

  • is escaping or fleeing domestic or family violence
  • has proof of inheritance
  • has proof of a workers’ compensation payout
  • is accessing superannuation funds.

These applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
