Aboriginal Housing Office

Requesting information from the AHO

The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) is committed to openness and transparency. You can request information from the AHO in line with the Government Information (Public Access)  Act 2009 (GIPA Act). The AHO will release information unless it's against the public interest to do so.

The AHO's Right to Information Policy explains how you can get information held by the AHO.

Open access information

The following information is made freely available by the AHO:

  • Annual reports, policy documents, factsheets and publications are published on this website.
  • Contracts over $150,000 with private-sector partners are registered on the NSW eTendering website

The AHO review and update this information at least every 12 months. If you can't access a document online, you can contact a local AHO office or contact the Right to Information Officer.

Information available by informal request

The AHO will typically provide the following types of information informally and at no cost:

  • copies of correspondence you sent to the AHO
  • documents containing only your personal information
  • documents that have already been made public
  • other reasonable requests for information where disclosure wouldn't raise public interest concerns.

For your tenancy, you can generally get copies of your:

  • Tenancy Agreement
  • property condition report
  • rental account statement
  • housing assistance forms.

The AHO may set conditions on the use or disclosure of information provided informally. While there's usually no charge, the AHO reserves the right to refuse informal requests or require a formal application.

Information available by formal request

If there is excessive work involved in responding to a request, or a review is required on whether the information can be released, the AHO may ask that a Formal Access Application form be lodged.

Formal applications must follow specific criteria and may involve a fee and there is some information that cannot be released, such as if that information has an overriding public interest against disclosure, or if it is information prescribed by Schedule 1 of the GIPA Act.
