New community engagement role to strengthen housing alliance and strategy

The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) have allocated funding to a new temporary Housing Lead position in the Riverina Murray Regional Alliance (RMRA). The role will nurture positive working relationships between the AHO and RMRA.

The AHO works alongside Regional Alliances that support local decision making and foster positive relationships between the community and government. The alliances also enhance stakeholder engagement and capacity building. 

In the role, Tessa Coddington will focus on building stronger relationships between Aboriginal tenants, housing providers and local stakeholders. This will ensure that the voices of Aboriginal people are heard and reflected in community housing programs. The AHO committed to funding the role after a need to strengthen alliance's capacity to work with the AHO and other government agencies was identified.

The RMRA, with strong community connections and housing support expertise, welcomes this collaboration as a chance to increase its impact and ensure Aboriginal communities help shape their housing futures.

The AHO will direct funding toward this temporary position to address the imbalance, bridge the gap and nurture effective engagement to assist in program design and strategy. The Housing Lead will:

•  work with community stakeholders 
• represent RMRA to set up government and non-government meetings 
• provide consistent reporting and record keeping
• oversee reporting between the AHO and RMRA
• ensure transparency, accountability and alignment with the AHO’s mission.

This role will allow the significant work of the RMRA to be captured and fed back into the AHO. This will better support the Riverina Murray Regional Aboriginal Housing strategy.
