Aboriginal Housing Office

Join the Western Regional Aboriginal Community Housing Committee

Join a committee focused on improving housing outcomes for Western NSW!

The Western Regional Aboriginal Housing Committee (RAHC) is seeking an additional committee member. People living in Murrumbidgee, Bathurst, Albury, Wagga, Dareton and Wentworth and surrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

The role of RAHCs

RAHCs enable self-determination in their local communities, allowing people to participate in the housing decisions that impact them.

The AHO Board asks RAHCs to:

  • monitor program delivery
  • provide an effective means for reporting to local Aboriginal communities
  • link with other relevant agencies
  • identify differing needs between and within regions.

RAHCs meet quarterly, but committee members are thinking about ways they can make a difference year-round.

The role of committee members

RAHC committee members act as a key connector to Community and must draw on local knowledge and housing sector experience to advise the AHO Board on housing issues for Aboriginal people. They bring a genuine commitment to understanding the experience of tenants and acting as the liaison between Community and the AHO Board.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this role, you must live full-time in the Western region and also have:

  • a connection to their local community
  • an understanding of local community and social housing
  • led or been a part of community consultation
  • documentation showing Confirmation of Aboriginality.
