More than 90 Services Our Way (SOW) clients have received refurbished laptops to support their education, employment and personal goals.
The laptops were donated by the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) Business Services team and distributed to SOW clients based on need.
Recipients are using the laptops for a range of purposes, including study, training, schoolwork and accessing online services.
Here, three of them share how having the laptop has made a difference to their lives.
"My son Bentley is 9 years old and lives with autism. He attends a support class at school, and the laptop has helped him access the same learning opportunities as his classmates.
It has made a significant difference to his learning and allows him to focus more effectively on his schoolwork. I am so grateful for the laptop because it gives Bentley the chance to flourish in class."
"I’m using my laptop to pursue my dream career in forensics. I currently work in two funeral homes, but my goal is to become a forensic pathologist and work alongside police one day.
I was over the moon when I found out I would be receiving a laptop. With support from SOW staff, I’ve also been able to find free online forensic courses to help build my skills and knowledge.
I can’t thank you guys enough."
"I’m using my laptop to continue my studies while I work towards finding employment. After recently exiting custody and completing rehabilitation, I enrolled in a Certificate III in Community Services through TAFE NSW.
Receiving a laptop will make it much easier for me to keep up with my coursework and stay focused on my goals. I hope that one day I can give back to my community by supporting others who are facing similar challenges."
