The AHO is saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Ivan Simon.
Uncle Ivan was a central figure in Aboriginal housing for over three decades and shaped Aboriginal housing policy and positive outcomes for Aboriginal people across Australia.
He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998 (NSW) and the AHO – contributing to our dedicated, culturally informed approach to housing. His highly-respected leadership within the AHO and other organisations helped drive major reforms and improved housing access and standards.
As a founding leader of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA) his influence went far beyond NSW. His work was instrumental in establishing NATSIHA as the first national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled housing.
He leaves a legacy of lasting community impact and will be sorely missed.
