This year hundreds of Aboriginal children across NSW started the school year with new bags and essential supplies, thanks to an initiative led by our Services Our Way (SOW) team.
The back-to-school packs were rolled out ahead of Term 1.
In total, 600 children received school bags filled with lunch boxes, drink bottles and stationery, helping them begin the year with confidence.
Amy Cubby from SOW said the initiative made a real difference.
“It allowed the kids to start the year with the items they need to succeed at school,” Amy said.
The packs were distributed to children from families already supported by SOW, as well as those identified by schools, community groups and Aboriginal support specialists.
Amy said this collaborative approach helped ensure support reached those who needed it most.
“Working closely with services across the state meant we could reach students who might otherwise have gone without.
“Several mothers told me it made a huge difference for their kids.
“And seeing the smiles on their faces was priceless.”
Services Our Way (SOW) provides culturally appropriate service coordination and support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and families experiencing vulnerability.
SOW enables clients to improve their wellbeing and capacity to navigate support services by connecting them to a network of relevant government and non-government programs, specialist services and community resources.
