The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) and Riverina Murray Regional Alliance (RMRA) are pleased to announce the first steps towards a new housing strategy for the NSW Riverina Murray region.
The RMRA Regional Aboriginal Housing Strategy will be launched later this year after extensive involvement from stakeholders and the Aboriginal community. The strategy will be used to improve existing housing and build new houses that meet community needs.
By prioritising culturally appropriate engagement and embedding local voices from the outset, the AHO and RMRA aim to foster positive working relationships with the communities they serve, and build a stronger, more supportive housing network for Aboriginal people.
The AHO and RMRA, in collaboration with Nama Jalu Consulting, recently led workshops with key housing stakeholders in Griffith, Wagga Wagga and online, with another to come in Deniliquin. There will also be community yarning circles and further opportunities to offer feedback on early drafts of the strategy.
